Suggested Packing List (for sisters)

  • 3-5 bottoms (pants, skirts, or dresses)
  • 5-7 tops which may include
    • tank tops (small and light weight for under your abayah, very comfortable out in the heat)
    • light weight but not see through blouses or shirts (also comfortable under an abayah and suitable to be worn in front of other sisters)
  • underwear - cotton and comfortable, enough pairs for at least a week
    • I've never heard of a problem with under wire bras in metal detectors (airport scanners) but if some have please share the info.
    • Keep in mind you may at some time or another need to hand wash these and hang them in the bathroom possibly visible to roommates.
  • Socks - 10 pairs
  • pajama/sleepwear
  • under scarves - 3
  • khimaar 2-3
  • niqaab 4
  • gloves 3
  • Abayah, Jilbab, Outer Garment - 3 if you plan to buy more
  • Shoes - 1 very comfortable pair that will last the duration and be suitable for walking

Clothing Tip - Light weight, breathable, easy to wash by hand if needed, quick drying

  • miswak
  • toothbrush
  • toothpaste
  • floss
  • mouthwash
  • soap
  • shampoo
  • conditioner
  • hair oil, spray, grease, mousse, etc...(whatever you use)
  • shavers
  • nail clippers
  • scissors (for trimming hair to exit ihraam - remember this must go in checked luggage)
  • comb, brush
  • hair clips, ponytail holders
  • Q-tips
  • cotton balls
  • 5 band-aids (bandages)
  • safety pins
  • baby wipes
  • sanitary napkins/supplies (only a few - these can be found easily and they take up a lot of space in luggage if you bring a lot)
  • Lotion, Shea butter, cocoa butter (whatever you use to moisturize your skin).
    • Deodorant
    • Bring TRAVEL SIZE ITEMS**** of almost all of the above list. Most of these things can be found easily at the nearby stores and these products can really weigh your bags down. The exception is if you have special products or prescription products, then bring enough for 3 weeks.
    • Remember the the 3-1-1 policy:

3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume) ; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure.

  • Pocket Qur‘aan
  • Du‘aa book
  • Albaseerah Hajj and `Umrah Handbook
  • book, notes on Rites of Hajj & `Umrah
  • notebook & pen
  • cellphone - remember to ensure it is unlocked
  • cough drops
  • sunglasses (if necessary)
  • small flash light with extra batteries
  • travel alarm clock
  • plastic bags & Ziploc bags
  • small towel
  • lightweight prayer rug
  • lightweight blanket, sheet
  • Spray bottle handy for wudoo‘ (when it is too difficult to get to running water) and to refreshing oneself
  • small pouch for pebbles as plastic bags break often
  • hairdryer (if necessary)

Note: Items with batteries must have the batteries removed from the item when packing e.g. flashlight, alarm clock

Don't forget extra bags for all the things you will accumulate during your trip!

Don't let this list fool you.

All of the listed toiletries fit into a clear pouch the size of a makeup bag (6"long x 2"wide x 4"tall). (This is because they are travel sizes***)

All the clothes fit into a small overnight bag (because they are light weight and thin)

You will have plenty of things to bring back inshaa'Allaah
