Question: A questioner asks: Is it permissible for my father to pay for me to do Hajj Badal for my grandmother and he has not yet done his Hajj? He is financially able to perform his Hajj but does not think he will be able to do Hajj this year due to health reasons.

Answer: The Shaykh حفظه الله asks some questions:

Question: Is the father that is paying Muslim?

Answer: Yes.

Question: He hasn't made the hajj of Islaam - the first and obligatory hajj?

Answer: Yes, he hasn't done that as yet, but he is not able to, but it is hoped that he will become cured and he would be able to.

Shaykh: So, he's going to pay money to his daughter so that she makes hajj for her grandmother who is his mother i.e. the father's mother?

Answer: Yes.

The Shaykh حفظه الله says that he hopes there is no problem with this, meeting the necessary conditions other than this and in the presence of a mahram and with the ability to actually go and make hajj, after she makes the hajj of Islaam - the first and obligatory hajj that the Muslim makes. After she does this she can continue and do the other one later on. She can make pilgrimage for anyone other than herself after she has made hajj for herself first.
