1. An-Nawawi's 40 Hadeeth
1.4. Da`eef Ahadeeth
The following ahaadeeth have been declared da`eef (weak) by the scholars, mostly because of their isnaad (chain) as narrated and collected in this work of Imaam An-Nawawi.
However, the meanings of the ahaadeeth are true and they have their ‘asl (basis) in Qur’aan and/or Sunnah. Some ahaadeeth have portions of its matan (text) in other books of ahaadeeth.

He has forbidden certain things, so do not indulge in them; and He has remained silent about certain things, as an act of mercy to you and not due to forgetfulness, so do not seek after them."
On the authority of 'Abee al-`Abbaas Sahl ibn Sa`d as-Saa`idee- Radiyallaahu `anhu - Who said, "A man came to the Prophet - Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam - and said,
'O Messenger of Allaah, direct me to an act which, if I do it, will cause Allaah to love me and the people to love me.'

'Allaah the Most High has said, "O son of Aadam, as long as you invoke Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind.
O son of Aadam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and you then asked forgiveness from Me, I would forgive you.
O son of Aadam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth, and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it."
